If you fit a non type approved towbar your car is illegal and you can be prosecuted under the construction and use regulations (fact and people have been!) -0 regardless if your towing (or not) at the time your stopped!

If your car is un-roadworthy (i.e. not conforming to the construction and use regulations)and you KNOWINGLY have made it so and you have an accident your insurance company would be quite within their rights to not pay out (after all they don't know if you have fitted an approved towbar or not do they regardless of what you
tell them). If you tell them you are modifying the car so that it is not legal for use on the road I think you will find your policy cancelled quickly - and you will be unable to gain insurance for the vehicle elsewhere

Bear in mind its also an mot testable item....

Oh and the smart would make a dire tow car for reasons I wont bother with they can be found easily enough if you google...

Also your language is not only offensive in general but also speaks volumes...and i think you would find it also unacceptable in Australia...

I think if you come up and flash repeatedly - or a long flash - i.e in an aggressive manner then your bang out of order (similarly slamming the brakes on when someone's behind you is bang out of order) - if you come up, keep a reasonable distance and the guy just sits there with no reason to then one *quick* flash to let him know your there is ok - that said he probably wont see it as he's obviously not using his mirrors anyway!

Its probably a case of two wrongs don't make a right...

Ask yourself this 'is what I am about to do liable to wind the person in front up/get an adverse re-action?' - if so don't do it...

from the high way code

"110

Flashing headlights. Only flash your headlights to let other road users know that you are there. Do not flash your headlights to convey any other message or intimidate other road users.
111

Never assume that flashing headlights is a signal inviting you to proceed. Use your own judgement and proceed carefully.
112

The horn. Use only while your vehicle is moving and you need to warn other road users of your presence. Never sound your horn aggressively. You MUST NOT use your horn

* while stationary on the road
* when driving in a built-up area between the hours of 11.30 pm and 7.00 am

except when another road user poses a danger."

http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/TravelAnd ... ort/Highwaycode/DG_070289

Personally I find someone coming up behind me and flashing their lights intimidatory and aggressive - OBVIOUSLY I wouldn't be there if i had a choice and as soon as I judge it to be safe to do so I will be out of the way...

in theory flashing lights at someone can be taken as road rage and charged as common assault....common assault is defined as "It is committed by a person who causes another person to apprehend the immediate use of unlawful violence" - hence you don't have to HIT anyone merely give them cause to think you might (if you do then its battery...at minimum)
